Whether sitting out the night on a tiny ledge or climbing multipitch ice in January, the Fitz Roy Down Parka delivers incredible loft and forced-bivy-level warmth at only 19 ounces. Traceable Down (800-fill-power goose down from geese traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked, as certified by NSF, an independent third party) traps your heat inside a fully baffled 100% nylon shell (with DWR (durable water repellent) finish) that sheds snow and moisture, and utilizes a special high-sheen fabric construction in the hood, shoulders and arms for enhanced water resistance. The helmet-compatible, single-pull hood has an internal heat-locking high-loft chamber on the back of the neck, and internal draft tubes eliminate cold spots along the 2-way center-front zipper. Cut long with a full coverage drop-tail hem (dual-adjust cord locks lock in warmth); three exterior zippered pockets (two high handwarmers and an exterior left chest); and one large, internal drop-in pocket for warming frozen gloves. Soft, low-profile, internal elastic-bound cuffs push up easily, and the included stuffsack has a built-in clip-in loop.
  • Lightweight and durable 100% nylon Pertex Quantum® fabrics throughout; a high-sheen Pertex Quantum® Y-yarn fabric on the hood, shoulders and arms has interlocking Y-shaped nylon fibers to enhance DWR (durable water repellent) performance
  • 800-fill-power Traceable Down (800-fill-power goose down from geese traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked, as certified by NSF, an independent third party)
  • Fully baffled construction, a longer cut and internal draft tubes at 2-way, center-front zipper eliminates cold spots
  • Helmet-compatible, baffled hood has a single-pull adjustment and an internal heat-locking, high-loft chamber on back of neck

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Traceable Down Insulation

Patagonia Traceable Down provides the highest assurance of animal welfare in the apparel industry. Every down cluster, in every one of our down products, comes exclusively from birds that were never force-fed and never live-plucked. How do we know? We hired an independent third-party expert to trace and verify our down supply chain from farm to jacket–and every step in between. Learn more

Women's Fitz Roy Down Parka is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everest Base Camp! Just completed the trek to Everest Base Camp in October (which was awesome!). I was fretting over a few different jackets - both Patagonia and other brands, with varying down fill and features. The Fitz Roy won out and it turned out to be an excellent choice. Not only is it super cozy (you won't want to take it off), but it's incredibly warm. I typically run cold and friends laugh when I bring a fleece to the beach. After freezing on a recent backpacking trip in the Sierra's, I knew I needed more down power for the Himalayas. This jacket kept me warm and without a care when temperatures dipped below freezing, and when summiting Kala Pattar (over 18,000 feet) in the middle of the night while others were complaining of the bitter cold. It helped ensure an amazing experience on the mountain and now I'm more excited than ever about tackling cold weather activities! Note the fit seems to run big - I'm 5'3 and have the small and can still fit multiple layers underneath, but probably could have gone smaller. Best to try on multiple sizes below what you normally would.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warmer then ever! Used to have to have several layers to keep warm now just a base, light fleece, and the fitz Roy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent for Ice Climbing I wear this jacket for ice climbing in AK and for the summit of winter hikes/skin tracks. For it's price and loft I would expect it to be a bit warmer when worn on it's own, but I think this is due to its thin outer material. Not very durable, but it keeps the jacket lightweight which is great for my purposes. When paired with a gore-tex shell, this jacket keeps me toasty warm while belaying in single digit\below zero temps. The hood fits nicely over my climbing helmet/ski helmet and the extra bit of down around the neck is lucious and really goes miles for trapping in warmth. This is my second season climbing ice and the Fitz Roy jacket has significantly upped my ability to stay outside, going from sweaty to standing, all day long. I am 5'3, 125lbs and XS fits true to size with the right amount of room for a layer underneath. Love this coat!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best jacket ever I wear it anytime it is 30 degrees and below and am so happy and warm, I feel like I'm walking around in a sleeping bag. The color is so pretty too! Love this jacket!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Parka Ever! I love, love, love my parka. It is super warm, light weight, and cozy. I feel like I am wrapped in heaven! It's not real tough on the outside so it may not work for tough outdoor work or climbing type conditions. I could live in it however! It fits so well with the hood and length that no cold air can sneak in. We have wicked cold and wind here in MT and it passes the test!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so light and so warm I was looking for something very warm and very light I could use for hiking. Something that could easily stuff into my day-pack. This coat totally fits the bill. I'm 5'3" tall, 105 lbs and there's room to spare with the XS. I ordered this jacket with hood because I wanted extra neck warmth (so I wouldn't have to carry a scarf or neck gator) and although the hood is lofty, its light weight keeps it from feeling cumbersome. Extra touches such as the "heat-locking high-loft chamber on the back of the neck, and internal draft tubes " really make a difference. So much so I don't really need to layer much with this coat. I adjust the bottom hem lock as needed for warmth and comfort. For me, small adjustments allow this coat to be utilized for temps between 30-60 degrees. I own my own hiking tour business and many of my customers have ordered this coat after seeing what it offers. It's simply the lightest, warmest, most comfortable coat I've worn in years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very warm, but also somewhat delicate I have purchased Fitz Roy Down Parka (2014-15 version) on Patagonia staff member's recommendation; he described it as the warmest piece of gear the company produces. He was absolutely correct - the parka is of the same warmth as Arctic-rated Kodiak jacket from a competitor (which says a lot), though packs down to the size of two tennis balls. It is long enough to provide seat coverage, has a zipper with baffling on both sides (real kudos to Patagonia - no more cold getting through the front), withstands moderate rain due to reinforced fabric on shoulders, arms and hood, and weighs practically nothing. It also fits true to the size - I am 5'7", 58kg, and wear Patagonia Small. Note that there is (finally) enough room for both hips and breasts - thank you, Patagonia, for appreciating many women have those. Why not five stars, then? I have two issues with this parka: 1) I have been using it for just over a month, but a number of feathers have already made their way through the fabric, and had to be pushed in. And I mean not around the seams, but on the body of the parka - which is annoying. 2) The fabric on (unreinforced) body is a magnet for dirt - and washing the parka every week is impractical. Would I buy it again? Yes, in a heartbeat - though because I was able to purchase it on sale. Full-priced item would be a more difficult call. That said, if in the future the two issues I mentioned are addressed (through more durable fabric on the body, perhaps?), Patagonia will have a cult-classic on its hands. Just do not change the shape of the parka, please - I have noticed that for some unfathomable reason Patagonia often downgrades the items it got right - which has already happened with ForeRunner shirt (raglan sleeves replaced with caps), Untracked pants (odd placed zippers and useless pockets introduced this year), etc.
