We had to exchange a coat with a bad zipper and couldnt get that one so got this instead.
It has been a great coat for winter. We ski a lot and it should grow with him so hopefully will get a few years.
We love the quality and craftsmanship of Patagonia and depend on Patagonia coats and jackets to get us through daily use during NYC winters. When our oldest son needed a ski coat, we thought this would be a no-brainer. The color is perfect, it keeps him VERY warm (coupled with a Pile jacket), and the arm zipper for his ski pass is perfectly positio... Read Morened to get through the chairlift gate. The only issue with this jacket is the hood!! My son wears a helmet, and the hood is useless as it does not fit over his helmet. Yesterday as we were skiing, the snow was coming down strong. The hood on this jacket collected snow and exposed his neck, and while the hood does come off, it would have been nice for him to have that additional waterproofing (and to not have to store the hood). Not a deal breaker, but it was such a bummer to learn this on the slopes. I hope that in the future, Patagonia will consider making the hood helmet-compatible.
Hi Lauren, we apologize for the trouble with the hood on the Snowshot Ski/Snowboard Jacket. Your son should feel comfortable and be able to utilize the features on his jacket. Please feel free to begin a [return or exchange](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) at your earliest convenience.
Love this jacket! Bought for my son for the snowy weather, and he wont take it off, even though hes just wearing it to school. Its a little big but perfect for growing room. I bought 2 of these for my twin 8.5 year old boys. They both wear a true size 8 and I got the size 10. It is large enough to wear next year. The sleeves are those nice adjustable for growth sleeves. I have this same jacket for all of my kids. We ski every weekend and the coat is great in most conditions. Super cold days it works with a few layers and on warmer days it works over a single thin layer.

We have purchased multiple sizes of this jacket over the years for both my sons and daughter. It's a great ski coat, warm but not too bulky. Definitely water resistant in the snow and kids stay dry. The only thing it needs to improve is a hood that could go up and over a helmet.
Good except the hood is UNUSABLE with a ski helmet
Dear Patagonia,
We are your biggest fans as a family. This jacket unfortunately is a let down. Its warm and the fit is decent, BUT you can not name a jacket the snow shot, label it as a ski/snowsports jacket then have the hood be completely incompatible with a helmet. You can do better. We will probably need to return it for this reason.
I have tried a lot of different brands and styles over the years. My kid is nuts and wants to be out in all weather (freezing rain, snow, sleet, brutal coldyou name it). This is the only jacket Ive found in this price range that can handle it all. He also gets the thing filthy and after wearing the last one for 2 seasons it looks brand new. If you ... We bought this jacket for our daughter because she loved the color, but also so we can pass it down to her little brother in a few years. We love the quality of these jackets and know we will get many seasons of use for both of our kiddos.
I got this same coat for my daughter last year and was floored by the quality. I got the same one for my son after being majorly disappointed by another snowboard brand at the same price point. We bought this for my 7 year-old very active son based on the features described and it is perfect for him. The first week we had the jacket, we took it to the Washington coast where an atmospheric river deluged the area with 4+ inches of rain and 40+ mph winds. The jacket kept our son warm and dry! The waterproof seams and zipper kept the water ou... Read Moretside and dried off quickly. The fit was loose but that allowed him to wear a fleece underneath for layering. Playing at school, our son is able to hang on the monkey bars and tumble around without restriction and the jacket wipes easily with a damp cloth and some soap. Overall, we are very pleased with the jacket and quality we expect with Patagonia.
Last winter my son used this coat for his days in a modified outdoor school on the coast of Massachusetts. He was lucky enough to be outdoors (silver lining from covid) a good portion of the day and the other was spent in a chilly yurt. This coat served him well in both situations. It took a beating!

I was happy with the repellency, quick dry and warmth. Great coat for serious and constant outdoor play. When you childs clothing is the difference between a good day and terrible day, I felt confident with this coat keeping him warm and happy.
I own a fair amount of Patagonia and have tremendous respect for this company. This jacket completely misses the mark. The whole benefit of engaging children with your brand is to develop fans. That is the aspect Patagonia lost here. This jacket is indistinguishable from every other Boys jacket out there like Columbia, etc. It is a cheap outer shel... Read Morel (very rough material) with outdated insulation tech (child will look like a snowman). For parents, to pack this 1980s puffy, rough, loud jacket that consumes your nice compact Patagonia duffel is difficult. I don't know why apparel brands all would want to make the same insulated jacket. Skiers uses layers with a combination of shells and jackets. This was designed by either someone who doesn't ski or by a frustrated designer that was forced to hit a price point. I could not think of a product that represents this fine brand worse.

Stays Dry, You Stay Warm
I bought this for my second-grader and he loves it! He wears it for playing outside in the snow, biking when its chilly. I am a convert - my gear is going to be Patagonia from here on out.
My sons have worn snowshots in years past, but for some reason the fit was off this year. The top / shoulder portion of the jacket kept riding up and didnt seem to lay flat on his shoulders. Besides that we have loved this jacket for skiing and snowboarding in past years.
Bought this last season for my 5 year old with room to grow. The size is good and I think we will get another 1 or 2 seasons more.
The pros: good quality (will be handing down to sibling) nice features, water resistant, warm, (usually layer tshirt skiing in the pnw).
The cons: hood and neck need some readjusting for skiing. Good fit there for casu... Read Moreal use and play but cannot zip up all the way (comfortably) if you try stuff a neck gaiter and helmet strap in there. Its easier if the hood comes off but would be nice if it was helmet compatible for when its nuking or windy on the mountain. A looser fitting and taller collar would help, as well. The current neck fit would prevent me from buying another size up in the future as this coat is a primary ski coat for us.
The wrist gaiters are a nice touch.
I bought it for my 5 years old boy, and he love it. Perfect design for snow and city wear, chic color, and super warm.
Because the sleeves have adjustable straps, I bought it a bigger size so he can also use it next year.
Purchased for my son. The colors are great, very vibrant. The jacket has a nice weight to it without being too bulky. It will be warm enough for our Chicago winters. Very happy with the purchase.
Very well constructed, seems really warm, my child was really comfortable when trying it on. Cant wait til snow season to try the coat out in the elements.
I bought this jacket for both my boys who are downhill ski racers in Alaska. My 12 year old asked me to write a review after he was wearing his jacket biking while camping in the pouring rain. This is the 3rd season my son has had this coat. We were able to get two years out of his last one and we decided to get the next size up. We like that the hood is not a helmet hood. We got this jacket as part of Aspen Valley Ski Club this year. My son loves it but hood is too small to fit over his helmet, so we had to remove. It offers great insulation & protection from elements. We ordered the XL & he’s 5’1” & about 120lbs.
We bought this for my son so he could wear it both to school and skiing and it's working out well so far. It may be okay without it for warmer winter climates such as the Pacific Northwest. Otherwise... Read More, great coat!
My son is complaining the edges at top of the collar hurt his face. I have the same jacket and it does do this- they are not rounded but stiff and square edges so when you look down..they do point into your chin.

Perfect winter coat
I wanted a winter coat for my son that was not a puffer coat and. Not a tri-climate that I had to deal with zipping layers in and out! This is a perfect coat for snow and cold. It is lightweight, yet warm and water resistant. It looks sleek and doesn’t add a lot of bulk!
I LOVE PATAGONIA
The boys snowshot jacket has the Patagonia dependable quality! My 11 yo was thankful it kept him warm during a cold, windy trip to NYC. Hi Kara, thanks for taking the time to write us this review! We're stoked to hear that your happy with the quality of the Snowshot Jacket. However, we're sorry to hear about the disappointment with the lack of room to grow. One awesome thing about this jacket is that the sleeves have a grow-feature which increases the length by two inches when you need it. Also, once your son grows out of it you can always submit it to [worn wear](https://wornwear.patagonia.com/) for credit!

Great jacket
Great Color and jacket! Only downside, no inside pockets.
My son loves it. It is comfortable but still bomber enough for him to sled in 2 inches of October snow and not rip it. Only improvement could be with the snaps to the hood. They tend to break easily.
I have had this jacket for one season and never had any issues with the waterproofing or the warmth of the jacket (it did get too hot once). I bought this for my 7-year old who really liked it - good fit, warmth etc - but it took only two months for the outer fabric to have several small holes all over the jacket. It was also frayed at the edges in the neck and both cuffs, with the lining visible underneath in several places.

We have been through 3 versions of this jacket since my son was 4. He is now 10 and this is my go to ski jacket when he outgrows the last one. Overall this jacket is worth the price if your kid skis a lot. Very bomber too; we handed ours down to family and the jackets have still looked great.
