The perfect coat for active kids!
I got this same coat for my daughter last year and was floored by the quality. I got the same one for my son after being majorly disappointed by another snowboard brand at the same price point. Kids play in freezing cold mud/clay? Just hose it off and it fired right out. Rainy/snowy/ yucky mix? All the other jackets will have your kids soaked and s... Read Moreitting inside asking for a movie! This coat is warm and water resistant. It washes in the machine and comes out like new. The last one we grew out of was worn hard for three years and looks new! Its being passed to our next kiddo when they are ready. I will never entertain another brand or style this is the gold standard. I wouldnt waste time with alternatives that wont hold up like this does!
Great for a Rough and Tumble Kid
We bought this for my 7 year-old very active son based on the features described and it is perfect for him. The first week we had the jacket, we took it to the Washington coast where an atmospheric river deluged the area with 4+ inches of rain and 40+ mph winds. The jacket kept our son warm and dry! The waterproof seams and zipper kept the water ou... Read Moretside and dried off quickly. The fit was loose but that allowed him to wear a fleece underneath for layering. Playing at school, our son is able to hang on the monkey bars and tumble around without restriction and the jacket wipes easily with a damp cloth and some soap. Overall, we are very pleased with the jacket and quality we expect with Patagonia.
Outdoor school approved
Last winter my son used this coat for his days in a modified outdoor school on the coast of Massachusetts. He was lucky enough to be outdoors (silver lining from covid) a good portion of the day and the other was spent in a chilly yurt. This coat served him well in both situations. It took a beating! While it did end up with a few rips due to the... Read More sledding on stomachs over rocks and sticks and tree climbing by the mid spring, I still feel good about it as his usage was above normal wear and tear. We were able to find some reflective seam tape which added a rugged appearance. I was happy with the repellency, quick dry and warmth. Great coat for serious and constant outdoor play. When you childs clothing is the difference between a good day and terrible day, I felt confident with this coat keeping him warm and happy.
Not worthy of the name
I own a fair amount of Patagonia and have tremendous respect for this company. This jacket completely misses the mark. The whole benefit of engaging children with your brand is to develop fans. That is the aspect Patagonia lost here. This jacket is indistinguishable from every other Boys jacket out there like Columbia, etc. It is a cheap outer shel... Read Morel (very rough material) with outdated insulation tech (child will look like a snowman). For parents, to pack this 1980s puffy, rough, loud jacket that consumes your nice compact Patagonia duffel is difficult. I don't know why apparel brands all would want to make the same insulated jacket. Skiers uses layers with a combination of shells and jackets. This was designed by either someone who doesn't ski or by a frustrated designer that was forced to hit a price point. I could not think of a product that represents this fine brand worse.

Great jacket but fit was off for my son
My sons have worn snowshots in years past, but for some reason the fit was off this year. The top / shoulder portion of the jacket kept riding up and didnt seem to lay flat on his shoulders. Besides that we have loved this jacket for skiing and snowboarding in past years.
Good quality coat-hood needs work
Bought this last season for my 5 year old with room to grow. The size is good and I think we will get another 1 or 2 seasons more. The pros: good quality (will be handing down to sibling) nice features, water resistant, warm, (usually layer tshirt skiing in the pnw). The cons: hood and neck need some readjusting for skiing. Good fit there for casu... Read Moreal use and play but cannot zip up all the way (comfortably) if you try stuff a neck gaiter and helmet strap in there. Its easier if the hood comes off but would be nice if it was helmet compatible for when its nuking or windy on the mountain. A looser fitting and taller collar would help, as well. The current neck fit would prevent me from buying another size up in the future as this coat is a primary ski coat for us. The wrist gaiters are a nice touch.
My son asked me to write this
I bought this jacket for both my boys who are downhill ski racers in Alaska. My 12 year old asked me to write a review after he was wearing his jacket biking while camping in the pouring rain. He went over the bars, into a pond (while trying to bike through), landing fully in the water. His undershirt stayed dry. He was amazed and asked me to write... Read More a 5 star review for the jacket. So, yes, great for skiing, but also multipurpose, being reassigned to bike snorkeling lately. Thanks, Patagonia!
Love this coat!
This is the 3rd season my son has had this coat. We were able to get two years out of his last one and we decided to get the next size up. We like that the hood is not a helmet hood. He wears it to school, sledding, and skiing and has never complained about being cold. We passed his last one down to our nephew and it is still in very good condition... Read More.
Great everyday coat!
We bought this for my son so he could wear it both to school and skiing and it's working out well so far. If for school, I would recommend you also get a fleece layer underneath for this particularly cold mornings, like what we have here in Minnesota. It may be okay without it for warmer winter climates such as the Pacific Northwest. Otherwise... Read More, great coat!
My son is complaining the edges at top of the collar hurt his face. I have the same jacket and it does do this- they are not rounded but stiff and square edges so when you look down..they do point into your chin.
Hi Bridgett! We're sorry the edges of the collar are uncomfortable for your son. If it becomes unbearable, you are welcome to [return](https://help.patagonia.com/s/article/Ironclad-Guarantee) the jacket back to us.
Perfect winter coat
I wanted a winter coat for my son that was not a puffer coat and. Not a tri-climate that I had to deal with zipping layers in and out! This is a perfect coat for snow and cold. It is lightweight, yet warm and water resistant. It looks sleek and doesn’t add a lot of bulk! I LOVE PATAGONIA
The boys snowshot jacket has the Patagonia dependable quality! My 11 yo was thankful it kept him warm during a cold, windy trip to NYC. Even on a ferry, he stood outside and was comfortable with his hood up! I appreciate the bright color, for I can find him easily. The jacket is bright, warm, wind proof! Thanks, Patagonia, for another quality jacke... Read Moret!
Runs a little small
This is the second snow shot jacket we’ve had. My son loves it, and it does fit him well, but I thought we’d have more grow room when considering the fit of other brands in the same size. Quality seems good. Our original snow shot jacket is going strong on our younger kiddo, and it still looks new, after 4 or 5 years of heavy use, so hopefully the ... Read More2019 version will hold up just as well.
Hi Kara, thanks for taking the time to write us this review! We're stoked to hear that your happy with the quality of the Snowshot Jacket. However, we're sorry to hear about the disappointment with the lack of room to grow. One awesome thing about this jacket is that the sleeves have a grow-feature which increases the length by two inches when you need it. Also, once your son grows out of it you can always submit it to [worn wear](https://wornwear.patagonia.com/) for credit!
Great after one season
I have had this jacket for one season and never had any issues with the waterproofing or the warmth of the jacket (it did get too hot once). Overall I was very impressed at how well this jacket functioned. Only problem: to sadly confirm some of the other reviews, the cuffs do fray, but that doesn't do anything, at least after one season. I am ... Read Morecurious to see how long this jacket lasts.
Not durable for younger kids
I bought this for my 7-year old who really liked it - good fit, warmth etc - but it took only two months for the outer fabric to have several small holes all over the jacket. It was also frayed at the edges in the neck and both cuffs, with the lining visible underneath in several places. I’ve never seen anything like this with any of my kids clot... Read Morehes - especially not at this price and from such a renowned company. Again, used for two months. Just normal wear, playing and skiing. It might last longer for an older kid but be aware that the outer fabric is very fragile.
Awesome ski jacket!
We have been through 3 versions of this jacket since my son was 4. He is now 10 and this is my go to ski jacket when he outgrows the last one. I usually buy it a little big and he gets 2 seasons out of it with the help of the grow fit feature (same with the matching pants which integrate wonderfully). Winters here in Idaho are cold and not often su... Read Morenny but he usually skis with 2 kids capilene layers and stays toasty warm. The insulation is just right. My only wish is that the jacket had pit zips for spring skiing. I usually reserve this jacket for skiing only but last year out of necessity he wore it for recess at school (again...cold and snowy here in winter) and he said it kept him warmer than the Patagonia down jacket used to wear and outgrew. Overall this jacket is worth the price if your kid skis a lot. Very bomber too; we handed ours down to family and the jackets have still looked great.
