Now made in a Fair Trade Certified™ facility, our neoprene-free Yulex® wetsuits are made of 85% natural rubber/15% synthetic rubber by polymer content. Replacing a petroleum-based material with a plant-based one, they offer the same warmth and performance attributes as conventional stretch neoprene while reducing CO2 emissions by up to ~80% in the manufacturing process. Derived from sources that are Forest Stewardship Council® certified by the Rainforest Alliance, we blend the natural rubber with chlorine-free synthetic rubber to increase ozone- and UV-resistance and meet our rigorous standards for strength, stretch and durability. Providing comfort, flexibility and sun protection with minimal weight, the pared-down R1® Lite Yulex® Long John is 2mm with a high-stretch, fast-drying 100% recycled polyester lining; the face fabric is 88% recycled polyester/12% spandex. The open-arm design offers full freedom of motion for paddling, and the center-back zip allows simple entry and exit. Soft and durable Supratex kneepads flex easily and provide additional comfort against a board deck. All seams have flatlock construction for next-to-skin comfort and increased strength. Easy-access key loop included. Suggested water temperatures: 65–75° F/18–23° C.

We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Biorubber

When we started making wetsuits, we quickly identified neoprene as a material that needed improvements to lessen its environment impact. So we met with the folks from Yulex who wanted to leverage the unique properties of the guayule plant, a hearty desert shrub native to the southwestern United States. Thus began a collaborative long-term project to develop a wetsuit material from guayule rubber.

Compared to traditional neoprene made from petroleum (or limestone), guayule rubber is a renewable resource that provides improved elasticity and softness and can be replaced faster than the product wears out. The agriculture is low-impact and the extraction and processing uses little energy and few chemicals.

Overall, from the crops to the rubber manufacturing, Yulex® guayule rubber has a lower environmental impact than the polychloroprene that it replaces.

Men's R1 Lite Yulex Long John is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from very comfortable I bought the long john to paddle a surfski in the ocean and I wear it more than anything else. Water temps here are around 60F while air temps range from 50F to 90F and it's often tough to dress for immersion in case of falling in while spending 99% of the time in the dry. The long john balances things out pretty well in that it provides the core warmth when I do take a swim or it's very windy but keeps me from overheating when I'm dry. I do switch to short neoproene paddling pants when it's just sunny and calm weather. On top I wear a terre planing hoody. The two things I don't like are the color and the lack of crotch zip. Why do wetsuits have to be black? On the water it's all about visibility to me, so I would much rather have a wetsuit in a bright color (that also doesn't absorb sun heat so much). As a paddler I also really like a way to take a leak without doing it surfer's style 'cause during most outings I actually never get in the water. This last reason is one that would make me not purchase this item again and that makes me not recommend it to friends.
